Steel stampings 0.2 - 3 mm

Robust parts for cost-stable series
Steel stampings
When mechanical load, price stability and high quantities are the main focus, steel in the 0.2 - 3 mm thickness range is often the most economical solution. Steel stampings 0.2 - 3 mm from Karl Naumann GmbH are designed for reproducible contours, controlled edges and coating-compatible design - so that assembly, corrosion protection and series releases do not become iteration loops.

Spring steels (when defined elasticity is required)
  • C75S (1.1248) - EN 10132-4
For resilient stamped parts, depending on the delivery condition and functional window.

Material selection is based on: Degree of forming, functional load, corrosion environment, surface requirements and cost profile.

Quality & certifications

Stamped steel parts are particularly sensitive to variations in strip quality, coating and friction coefficients. For this reason, features that influence their function (e.g. hole position, edges, mating surfaces) are designed to be testable and documentable. The basis is quality management in accordance with ISO 9001, supplemented by customer and industry-specific release requirements.

Logistics, packaging and labeling

  • Packaging: separated in layers, gentle on edges and surfaces (KLT, cardboard, reusable as required)
  • Labeling: article number, material, batch/lot, optional 2D code
  • Delivery models: call-off/frame orders, defined delivery windows
  • Traceability: can be documented by material and batch

Glossary - relevant technical terms

  • Progressive tool: Tool with several stations for processing in one cycle.
  • Phosphating: Surface treatment (mainly steel) to optimize corrosion/friction value and paint adhesion.
  • Burr: Material protrusion on the cutting edge; influences assembly and safety.
  • Material number: Unique identifier (e.g. 1.0330) for standardized steels.
  • Lot/batch identification: Basis for traceability via material and production.

Structural steel / quality steel parts made from cold-rolled strip

This variant is chosen when a stable dimensional basis, economical production and a defined surface for subsequent coatings are required. The function usually results from the contour, hole pattern and sheet metal rigidity (mounting plates, tabs, cover parts). At Karl Naumann GmbH, we often use this design for near-series assembly parts.

Technical parameters - cold-rolled steel
ParameterTypical industrial characteristics
Material groupsUnalloyed quality steels (coilable), deep-drawing grades as required
Thickness range0.2 - 3.0 mm
Surface conditionbright/lightly oiled, suitable for coating
Geometric center of gravityHole patterns, outer contours, shaped slots
Edge requirementFunctionally defined burr side / optionally deburred
Post-processPaint/KTL/powder, phosphating if necessary (depending on specification)

Hot-rolled strip/pickled strip punched parts for robust geometries

If the components are less surface-critical, but the focus is on a robust material base and high availability, pickled and oiled primary material is used. Typical applications are load-bearing or covering sheet metal parts with a large contour area where the surface does not serve as a functional surface.

Technical parameters - hot-rolled/pickling strip
ParameterTypical industrial characteristics
Material groupsUnalloyed steels, pickled/oiled
Thickness range1.5 - 3.0 mm (common), 0.2 - 3.0 mm possible depending on product range
Surface characterTechnical, not decorative
FlatnessDepending on the module, adjust/calibrate if necessary
Operating environmentMechanically stressed cover and carrier parts
Quality inspectionDimension/hole position, flatness according to drawing

Zinc or zinc alloy coated stamped parts (coil coating)

For corrosion-relevant applications, we use coil-coated steel grades in which the protective coating is already present on the primary material. Design issues include the cut edge, contact points and compatibility with subsequent joining processes (e.g. screw or clamp contact). We take these boundary conditions into account as early as the tool and feature definition stage.

Technical parameters - coil-coated
ParameterTypical industrial characteristics
Coating systemZn, ZnAl, ZnMg (system-dependent)
Thickness range0.5 - 3.0 mm
Edge conceptCut edge as protection point driver, post-passivation if necessary
Contact/support surfacesTransition resistance and assembly-guided
Process compatibilityJoining/forming depending on the coating system
ApplicationsSwitch cabinet components, mounting parts, device environments with condensate

Aluminum-silicon or organically coated steel parts (special surfaces)

Special surfaces are used for temperature or media-related applications, e.g. AlSi-coated steels or organic coil coatings. The focus here is on the defined surface function (temperature resistance, friction/corrosion behavior, insulation effect depending on the system), not the pure contour.

Technical parameters - special coatings
ParameterTypical industrial characteristics
Coating systemAlSi (near-temperature), organic coil coatings (system-dependent)
Thickness range0,4 - 3,0 mm
Surface functiontemperature/corrosion/insulation controlled
Edge requirementGentle on the layer, defined cutting quality
Reworklimited depending on layer (observe specification)
UseHeat proximity, appliance covers, functionally coated sheet metal parts

Spring band steel stamped parts for clamping, latching and pretensioning functions

If the component function is defined by elastic recovery, spring steel strip is used. The design is determined by the spring characteristic curve, setting behavior and edge integrity. We manufacture such parts for mechanical safety devices, clips and pretensioning elements in assemblies.

Technical parameters - spring steel strip
ParameterTypical industrial characteristics
Material groupsSpring band steels (carbon steels), possibly spring-capable stainless steel variants as required
Thickness range0,2 - 2,0 mm
Functional featureSpring deflection/force, relaxation, fatigue strength
Process chainPunching + heat treatment if necessary (depending on design)
Edge qualitynotched arm for fatigue strength, defined edge zone
ApplicationsSpring clips, locking plates, retaining and securing elements

Soft magnetic stamped parts (electrical sheet components)

Soft magnetic sheets are punched for magnetic circles, where edge zone effects and burrs can influence the magnetic performance. Relevant variants are single sheets, segments and stackable geometries with fitting and alignment features. For such parts, we focus on reproducible cutting conditions and stackable feature positions.

Technical parameters - soft magnetic
ParameterTypical industrial characteristics
Material groupsElectrical steel (grain-oriented/non-grain-oriented, depending on application)
Thickness range0.2 - 1.0 mm typical, up to 3.0 mm depending on system
Critical influencing variablesBurr, edge zone, sheet metal insulation if necessary
Stack/package logicFitting window, reference features, package formation
Test characteristicsBurr/optics, dimension/position, package-related inspection as required
ApplicationsStator/rotor segments, yoke parts, magnetic core geometries

Directional and flatness-critical punched parts for precise assembly runs

When stamped steel parts are used as defined bearing or sealing surfaces, flatness itself becomes the main feature. Such parts are distinguished by a flatness-oriented process window (straightening, calibration, feature-based testing) and are often used in bolted or clamped assemblies.

Technical parameters - critical to flatness
ParameterTypical industrial characteristics
Thickness range0.5 - 3.0 mm
Primary featureFlatness/distortion, contact surface quality
Process measuresAlignment/calibration, defined belt tension/tool guidance
Geometry driverLarge contours, asymmetrical cut-outs
Test strategyFlatness measurement, functional gauges, position-related measurements
UseSupport plates, sealing carriers, sheet metal parts critical to assembly
