Sheet metal assemblies 0.2-3.0 mm - when individual parts are only ready for series production in the assembly
  • Assembly instead of thinking in terms of individual parts: We evaluate the formed sheet metal part and assembly together - tolerance chains, joining directions and process sequences are defined at an early stage.
  • Assembly according to function, not preference: riveting, screwing, pressing or gluing is carried out according to requirements - resilient, reproducible, ready for release.
  • Material mix mastered: metal, felt, plastic or functional elements are integrated in line with assembly requirements.
  • Series logic from the start: the component and assembly concept are designed for series production, not for one-off samples.

Sheet metal assemblies
are system decisions

A sheet metal assembly is more than the sum of stamped sheet metal parts. As soon as several components are joined, tolerance chains, joining sequence, joining technology and material combinations determine function and series production capability.
Karl Naumann GmbH manufactures sheet metal assemblies from punched sheet metal parts of 0.2-3.0 mm according to customer specifications: Which connection is functionally necessary? Which one is economically stable? And which one remains approvable even after 100,000 pieces?

Sheet metal assemblies rarely fail because of the component - usually because of the assembly

Individual parts can conform to the drawing and still cause problems in the assembly: stresses, assembly forces outside the process window or unstable position references. If you only consider assembly after part approval, you risk rework, additional processes or production stops.
Our approach is clearly structured: Component → Connection → Assembly sequence → Testing. This makes the assembly technically manageable.

Typical connection techniques

  • Riveting (solid rivet, semi-tubular rivet, blind rivet)
  • Screwing (direct or with press-fit/threaded elements)
  • Pressing / press-fitting (bolts, nuts, bushes)
  • Gluing (structural or functional, e.g. damping/insulation)

Typical module functions

  • Holding, positioning, guiding
  • Decoupling, damping, insulating
  • Pre-assembled units for final assembly

Technical valuation parameters (guideline logic)

  • Sheet thickness: 0.2-3.0 mm
  • Connection:Force flow, dismantlability, service life
  • Assembly sequence:Accessibility, joining direction, automation capability
  • Tolerance chain:Positional reference of the individual parts in the assembly

Typical sources of risk (which we clarify in advance)

  • Overdetermined bearing arrangements
  • Assembly forces outside the series capability
  • Bonding processes without defined surface logic
  • Inaccessible test features

Types and variants of sheet metal assemblies with punched sheet metal and bent parts from 0.2 - 3 mm

Sheet metal assemblies with punched sheet metal and bent parts of 0.2 - 3 mm are functional industrial components in which several formed sheet metal parts are combined to form an assembly-ready and functional unit. They are used wherever mechanical functions, positioning accuracy, force transmission or installation space integration cannot be mapped by individual parts, but only by defined assembly solutions. Typical applications can be found in mechanical and plant engineering, in the electrical and electronics industry, in medical technology, in ventilation and air conditioning technology and in fastening and connection technology. Karl Naumann GmbH develops and manufactures such sheet metal assemblies on the basis of its own stamping, bending and forming processes and converts them into project-specific systems suitable for assembly.

Functional assemblies made from stamped and bent sheet metal parts

These assemblies represent mechanical or constructive core functions, such as holding, guiding, positioning or supporting. They consist of several punched and bent sheet metal parts whose geometries and positional references are coordinated. In contrast to simple sheet metal packages, the focus here is on the function-defined assembly logic rather than the pure addition of parts. Typical applications are holding frames, support structures or functional modules in mechanical engineering.

Technical parameters - functional assemblies

Mounting assemblies with additional components (felt, plastic, functional elements)

This variant adds non-metallic components such as felts, plastic parts or spacers and damping elements to the metallic assembly. The aim is to integrate additional functions such as noise reduction, insulation, protection or defined friction values. They are distinguished from pure metal assemblies by the targeted material mix and its influence on assembly and service life. Applications include device housings, guide and damping units or protection modules.

Technical parameters - mounting assemblies with additional components

Sheet metal assemblies with permanent joints

With this type of assembly, the focus is on a permanent, non-detachable connection. Riveted, pressed or bonded assemblies are designed for durability, vibration resistance and reproducibility. They differ from detachable assemblies in terms of reduced assembly times and greater process stability in series production. Typical applications are structural modules, reinforcement elements or safety-relevant assemblies.

Technical parameters - permanent joints

Detachable sheet metal assemblies with screw and press-fit elements

This variant is designed for maintenance, replacement or modular systems. Punched and bent sheet metal parts are joined using screw connections or press-fit nuts/bolts. In contrast to permanent assemblies, the focus is on defined torques, repeatable assembly and disassembly. Typical industrial use is in service assemblies, housing modules or interface components.

Technical parameters - detachable sheet metal assemblies

Pre-assembled modules for final assembly processes

These assemblies are integrated into higher-level systems as functional units. The aim is to reduce assembly work for the customer through defined pre-assembly. They differ from complete systems in that they fulfill a clearly defined sub-function. Typical areas of application are series production with high quantities and clearly defined interfaces.
